“I think I may come here every night.” “Be my guest,” Dane said, looking away as if he were bored; when in reality, his heart was racing. Frederick would crack. His shirt was open now, his eyes closed. The habit would continue as it always did. Wouldn’t it? He would self-destruct. All men eventually did when it came to Dane. The ones who didn’t, well… they weren’t alive to say otherwise, now, were they? “Have fun.” Dane stood, patted Frederick on the back, and shared a knowing look with the woman currently straddling the man’s lap. “Make it worth his while but remember our rules.” Dane shoved the guilt aside as he walked off. The guilt of what this would do to Everlee. Then again, Everlee didn’t know what he did. She didn’t know the secrets Frederick kept. That he wasn’t who she thought he was. Then again, nobody really did. Only Dane. Because he’d collected everything he could on Frederick for a year and was less than impressed by the sort of man he was. “Interesting club,” Ronan said once Dane reached the bar. He was flanked by two bodyguards. “They aren’t necessary,” Dane said in an unemotional voice, pointing to the security. “No weapons allowed, no fighting, only pleasure.” “And yet, here you are, talking to me.” Ronan leveled him with a glare. “What do you want, Dane?” “Is that how you speak to an old friend?” Ronan let out a snort. “We’ve never been friends. We’ve only tolerated each other because of the girls.” The girls. It was how they all referred to Brittany, Everlee, Zoe and Danica. Pain sliced through Dane’s heart, he couldn’t even say her name in his head without feeling it everywhere, all the way down to the marrow. Shake it off. They were women now. Women with secrets. Insecurities. Girls who’d grown up too fast. Females who were still fighting their way through the jungle of New York, barefoot and bleeding with fake smiles and deadly secrets. “I need you to keep him in jail,” Dane said under his breath. “They say he’s getting out on good behavior.” Ronan muttered a curse. “Let me guess, you want me to go have a golf game with the DA?” “If you think that would help.” Dane tilted his head and narrowed his eyes on the politician, the man he used to trust as much as everyone else before Dane’s world came crumbling down around him by way of his sister’s death. “Then, yes.” “Fine. This makes us even.” Ronan tried to walk off, but Dane grabbed him by the elbow and held him there, whispering in a low voice, “I will never be done with you… tell the former first lady hello. I loved what she was wearing while shopping on Fifth Avenue yesterday, the white made her look so innocent.” Ronan let out a filthy curse and walked off. And Dane? Dane stared out across the club as a feeling of calmness washed over him. Chess pieces had been moved. Now. Now, he would wait.

This was an absolutely amazing book!! It was not what I thought it would at all! I loved the people, the writing was fantastic and most of all it was real. I love a book that is based on reality.  This hit all the points for me. Drama, intrigue, cattiness, and realism. It was an awesome ride.

What is the Bastard Bachelor Society?

It’s a gentleman’s club—like the dignified men of the past used to have.

Except, we’re not gentleman, and we’re not dignified.

We’re ineligible bachelors; bored, jaded and not looking for relationships. Quite the opposite actually

We’re so committed to being single, we’ve created a high stakes bet to see who can remain single the longest. Rules are involved. Prizes.

Laugh it up, but I’m no loser.

Enemy number one to my single status? My irresistible neighbor, Abbott Margolis. She with her evil cat Desdemona, and Sexy AF pencil skirts. She’s kind and beautiful and hilarious. We can’t get involved, no matter how much her meddling grandmother pushes us together. But if I was going to lose this bet for anyone? It would for Abbott.

Let’s face facts: I’m a bastard, unwilling to settle down.

Especially when there’s a bet to win.

Review: Almost Just Friends

Almost Just Friends Almost Just Friends by Jill Shalvis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love the Wildstone series and I have been anticipating this book for a good year since I knew it was coming out. I loved the 1)Plot 2) Storyline 3) Characters. I could've finished this in one night, but I was sick and had to stretch it into several days. The characters are interwoven into the plotline so intricately that I fell back in love with the whole series again and decided to start Book 1 again. I have really come to love all of JS books. I would recommend this as my first 5-star of 2020.

The Valentine Boys
Release Date: January 21

His Wranglers fit him like a glove. A really tight, leaving nothing to the imagination, glove. Codie wants nothing more than to shove that Wrangler-covered butt straight into the mud.

Ace Valentine has a smart mouth, a devil-may-care attitude, and those wicked eyes aimed directly at her.

She doesn’t know what to do with that kind of attention. Especially not from the sweet-talking man that has no problem charming every woman that enters his orbit—everyone but her, at least.

Ace isn’t sure why Codie Spears had her panties in a twist when it comes to him, but every snub and insult she hurls his way brings him closer and closer to falling for her.

He’s not sure what it is about the town’s bad girl that draws his attention, but every encounter they have leaves him wanting her until there’s nothing else left to do but have her.

The only thing is, she’s been convinced by everyone around her that she’s not good enough. Tell a person that she’s a piece of trash enough times, and eventually she’ll start to believe it. It’s going to take a lot of smooth-talking and gentling on his part to get her to see that she’s worth it.

And once he has her where he wants her? Well, she’ll make a mighty fine rancher’s wife.

This was such a good new series!! I can't wait for the next one. It started off slow, but really picked up in that LLV way. I thought that it reminded me so much of her original Boomtown series. I am now excited for the next one.

Let’s do a calendar, they said. It’ll be fun, they said.
Well, they—i.e. Kilgore Police Department’s public relations specialists—were wrong.
Now, every time Dax Tremaine walks around a corner, the women of Kilgore, Texas can’t help calling him Mr. January.
Mr. January, can you fix my flat tire? Mr. January, can you cuff me? Mr. January, can you sign my boob?
It goes from bad to worse when even on a SWAT call, the women won’t stay away.
It was the worst time of her life. Rowen Roberts had finally admitted to herself that the man she loved would never love her back. She was just fired from her job for violating client confidentiality, and to make matters worse, she’s held up at gunpoint in a convenience store where she only wanted some ice cream to help mask the pain.
The moment the gun is pressed to her forehead, she knows she has a decision to make. Follow the rules and maybe possibly live, or go down swinging where at least she can salvage just a little bit of her dignity.
And when Mr. January himself tells her to do what the gunman says, she’s had enough. Rowen has never really been a girl that does what she’s told. Mr. January won’t have to save her. She can dang well save herself.

I loved Dax and Rowen in this book and it also made me love LLV's books again. For quite awhile they've been all the same, then I get to this one and I loved their story. It was great catching up with all the SWAT guys. This had the old timers handing over the reigns to the new generation and I loved reading this and the novella before that was a setup to this book. Rowen was a sweetheart and what she went through with having her hair fall out by someone poisoning her shampoo broke my heart. The way that Dax cared for rowen was beautiful to me. I would definitely recommend this new series.if they all continue to be different.
